Gallstones are hard, stone-like pieces that form inside the gallbladder, a small bag under the liver that stores bile. They are very common and often cause pain in the upper right side of the tummy, especially after oily or heavy food.
The whole gallbladder with stones is removed through 3–4 tiny cuts using a camera. Most patients go home within a day with very little pain.
In selected cases, the surgery is done through one small cut for an almost scar-free result.
If a stone has slipped into the bile duct, it is cleared first by endoscopy (ERCP), then the gallbladder is removed safely.
Most people walk the same day, eat normally within a day or two, and return to light work within a week. You can live a completely normal life without your gallbladder.
