Burst (Ruptured) Appendix: Warning Signs and Why Time Matters
An inflamed appendix that isn't treated can burst (perforate), spreading infection inside the abdomen. This is why doctors take right-sided abdominal pain seriously and don't advise waiting at home for days.
Quick answer: a burst appendix often causes pain that spreads across the whole abdomen, high fever, a hard, very tender belly, rapid heartbeat and feeling very unwell. Sometimes pain eases briefly after rupture and then becomes much worse. It is an emergency needing hospital care the same day.
Warning signs ख़तरे के संकेत
- Pain spreading from the right side to the whole abdomen.दर्द पूरे पेट में फैलना।
- A brief period of relief, followed by worse pain — a classic trap.कुछ देर राहत, फिर और तेज़ दर्द।

Why time matters समय क्यों ज़रूरी
The risk of perforation rises the longer appendicitis goes untreated — especially beyond about 36–72 hours from the start of symptoms. Children under 5 and older adults can perforate sooner because their symptoms are often unclear.
Don't wait for pain to become unbearable. Getting checked on the first day of right-sided pain gives the best chance of a simple keyhole operation.
Treatment of a burst appendix इलाज
- IV fluids and antibiotics started immediately.ड्रिप और एंटीबायोटिक।
- Laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery to remove the appendix and wash out the abdomen is often possible, even when it has burst.अधिकतर दूरबीन से ऑपरेशन।
